Des Moines Film Society to launch with ‘Metropolis’ performance
The Des Moines Film Society will launch on Sept. 17 amid a live screening of the complete, restored version of Fritz Lang’s classic silent film “Metropolis.” The film will be accompanied by the Alloy Orchestra. The event will be held at Hoyt Sherman Place and starts at 7 p.m. It will serve not only as a launch event, but also a fundraiser for the new nonprofit dedicated to growing a vibrant, local film culture and community. The Des Moines Film Society will work to present the best in American and international cinema, promote awareness of film art through outreach and education programs, and provide filmmaker support services. The organization was founded by Andy Brodie, program director for FilmScene in Iowa City, and Ben Godar, a local writer and filmmaker.
