Des Moines is awarded $328,277 annually for affordable housing

The city of Des Moines will receive $328,277 annually in housing vouchers for Polk County residents through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Mainstream Voucher Program, the city announced. “The infusion of 60 housing vouchers every year will go a long way in providing affordable housing and alleviating a burden for dozens of our homeless residents,” Chris Johansen, the city’s community development director, said in a prepared statement. The program, which will begin July 1, will provide housing vouchers to homeless people in Polk County.
