Des Moines loses relatively few manufacturing jobs
Des Moines lost 3,800 manufacturing jobs from 2000 through 2010, according to numbers from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics compiled by Business First in Buffalo.
The numbers show that 99 of the top 100 markets in the United States lost manufacturing jobs. Des Moines lost the eighth-fewest by numbers and ninth-fewest by percentage.
The city reported 21,600 manufacturing jobs in 2000 and 17,800 in 2010, a 17.59 percent decrease.
Bakersfield, Calif., was the only city to gain manufacturing jobs.
