Des Moines Metro Opera announces lineup for Summer Festival Season

The 44th Summer Festival Season of the Des Moines Metro Opera will combine three full-scale operas with the third year of the organization’s 2nd Stage Series, which aims to take opera into into the community for performances in non-traditional spaces. The Summer Festival Season kicks off on June 24 and includes three operas presented in 15 performances at the Blank Performing Arts Center in Indianola. Performances this year include Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff, Jules Massenet’s Manon, and Christoph Williabald Gluck’s Orfeo, which represents the company’s expansion into baroque music. Franz Schubert’s Winterreise will kick off the 2nd Stage Series at the Des Moines Art Center on Jan. 29, followed by Phillip Glass’ Galileo Galilei in July 2016. Past subscribers are eligible to renew their Summer Festival Season subscriptions. Tickets go on sale to the public on Oct. 1.
