At its May 18 meeting, the Des Moines City Council approved an agreement with AECOM Technology Corp. for professional services related to phase one of the Des Moines River Regional Trail for an amount not to exceed $202,000.

The proposed trail will connect with existing trails near Principal Park and the James W. Cownie Soccer Park on East Hartford Avenue, following the south side of the Des Moines River. The city is paying for the development and design of the trail, with state and federal funding sources expected for actual construction.

AECOM’s office at 500 S.W. Seventh St., Des Moines, under Principal-in-Charge Steve Eaton, will perform necessary reviews and analysis to obtain environmental approval for the trail by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), prepare the necessary permits and clearances required for the project and develop plans and specifications for DOT letting.

Twelve proposals were received and AECOM was selected based on its approach, qualifications and experience, according to a council communication report.
