Des Moines City Manager Scott Sanders has named veteran Des Moines officer Dana Wingert as the new police chief, subject to City Council confirmation, which is expected Monday. Wingert, a major who oversees the patrol division and other functions, will replace Judy Bradshaw, who resigned and accepted a position as assistant director of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Sanders had considered four finalists, three from the Des Moines department. “Dana has prepared himself well for this role,” Sanders said in a statement. “He has made strong and productive relationships with members of our community. He is personable, approachable and a competent police officer.”
