The budget includes a general fund of about $207.87 million. It takes effect on July 1. Des Moines’ tax rate of $16.61 per $1,000 of taxable property value will remain unchanged. Policing makes up 37% of the city’s budget, which includes an increase of about $1.2 million from the current fiscal year — a cause for concern by some residents at Monday’s meeting.
