Des Moines Performing Arts offering free summer programming
Des Moines Performing Arts has announced six opportunities for community entertainment this summer. According to a news release, the programs are designed to engage audiences and performing arts enthusiasts. DMPA is working with city departments across the metro area and community organizations to host the events in city parks and nontraditional spaces. The programming is being offered free of charge. The programs include:
- Yoga on the Commons, 9 a.m. every Sunday, June through August at Cowles Commons.
- Waterbombs pop-up performances, multiple performances at various community parks June 25-27.
- Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience and “The Princess and the Frog,” 7 p.m. July 16 at Jamie Hurd Amphitheater in West Des Moines, and 7 p.m. July 17 at Prairie Meadows Riviera Amphitheater at Riverview Park in Des Moines.
- Ants Pop-up Experience, Aug. 5-8 at various community parks.
- Squonk Hand to Hand Spectacle Concert Experience, Sept. 4-5, multiple performances at Cowles Commons.
- Somos Amigos Concert: Sonia Des Los Santos and the Okee Dokee Brothers, 6 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Ankeny Bandshell at Wagner Park and 6 p.m. Sept. 24 at Lauridsen Amphitheater at Water Works Park.
