The Des Moines Playhouse will be presenting “Miracle on 34th Street,” with both in-person and livestream options for audiences. The announcement follows the Playhouse’s return to live theater this fall after offering drive-in-style performances over the summer. The family holiday show, “Playhouse on the Air Presents: Miracle on 34th Street,” will run Dec. 4-20. A livestream presentation will be available on opening night. Opening night will be recorded and available for on-demand viewing through Dec. 27. Tickets, livestream and on-demand may be purchased online. According to the release, audiences will enter a 1940s radio studio with a radio host, sound effect artist and star-studded acting company performing the holiday classic. For in-person audiences, the Playhouse is following local, state and federal health department guidelines to keep patrons safe. The guidelines, which include a requirement that masks be worn and reduced seating capacity, are available on the theater’s website.
