Des Moines projects win cultural grants
The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Warren Morrow Latin Music Festival in Des Moines. Statewide, 200 grants for film, history and culture projects totaled $2.1 million. The department’s new Greenlight Grants for film and digital productions made in Iowa to tell the state’s stories totaled $140,000. Wallace House in Des Moines got nearly $12,000 for a front porch repair. The Sixth Avenue Corridor Bridge Art Project over the Des Moines River got $10,000. Other grants included operating support for Science Center of Iowa, Salisbury House, Des Moines Metro Opera, Des Moines Symphony, Des Moines Performing Arts, Civic Music Association and Des Moines Art Center. Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Iowa received a grant for an “outdoor interactive community space.”
