The Des Moines Symphony will present this year’s Yankee Doodle Pops concert on July 2 at 8:30 p.m. The 22nd annual event will take place on west terrace of the Iowa Capitol. The theme of the patriot concert is “Iowa: America’s Musical Heartland” and will feature music inspired by the state. The symphony has also partnered with Des Moines Performing Arts and will welcome “The Bridges of Madison County” composer Jason Robert Brown, who will conduct the orchestra in selections from the Broadway musical. The Turner Center Jazz Orchestra will precede the symphony’s performance with a concert prelude at 6:30 p.m. The concert is outdoors and free to attend. It also will be broadcast on Iowa Public Radio and Channel 22 on Mediacom. Learn more about this year’s concertonline.
