Des Moines Register: A company that plans to build a $450 million beef processing plant in western Iowa is asking Gov. Kim Reynolds to sink millions of federal pandemic recovery dollars into the project. Chad Tentinger, founder of Cattlemen’s Heritage Beef Co., said he’s requesting a $150 million grant from the $1.5 billion that Iowa is receiving from the American Rescue Plan that Congress approved in March 2021. Tentinger says producers need state and federal government assistance to break the grip that four giant meatpackers — Tyson Foods, JBS USA, National Beef Packing Co. and Cargill Inc. — have on the industry.
