With a complete renovation of the historic hotel expected to start this spring, Django will remain open through Feb. 17, according to a release. “After evaluating the massive scope and multi-year timeline of the renovation, it became clear we could not maintain a quality business in the midst of a project of that magnitude. We are hopeful we can find a new location for Django in downtown Des Moines,” Orchestrate Hospitality President Paul Rottenberg said in a statement. “While this transition is disappointing, we are happy the hotel is going to be reborn. It will play an important role in the Western Gateway.” Orchestrate Hospitality manages a number of other businesses in the area, including: Bubba, Centro, Gateway Market, Malo, South Union Bread Cafe and multiple Zombie Burger locations. The group plans to make every effort to place existing Django staff at sister properties while the search for a new location is conducted. Due to the evolving timeline of the Hotel Fort Des Moines renovation, Orchestrate could not reach a long-term agreement to return to the original space when the hotel reopens. An ideal location for Django would have 4,000 to 6,000 square feet of space in the 50309 ZIP code. Preference will be given to a second-generation restaurant space with existing grease interceptor and appropriate HVAC system. Customers with active Django gift cards are encouraged to use them before Feb. 17.
