170 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and CultureDes Moines Area Community College and Pyramid Theatre Co. have partnered to host the “Creating Black History” event on Thursday, Feb. 29. The event will offer food and music as well as three programs: a reading of “The Meeting” by Jeff Stetson, which tells the story of a fictional meeting between Malcolm X and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.; a premiere of the Heart Health docuseries, featuring five Black Iowans and their heart health journeys; and a performance by the Bridges 2 Harmony Gospel Choir from Roosevelt High School. The event is free to attend, but freewill donations will be accepted. The funds will go toward Iowa Juneteenth. “We’re so excited to work with DMACC on bringing the whole community together for this special event,” said Napoleon Douglas, Pyramid Theatre’s artistic director. “Having a play that tells stories of the past as we come together to share our stories moving forward in the future is the perfect way to end Black History Month.” To learn more, click here.
