DMACC lands federal aid to help veterans and families
Des Moines Area Community College has received $87,860 in federal aid to support tuition grants to veterans as part of a U.S. Department of Transportation effort to improve safety in the commercial driving field. “This grant will be used to fund direct tuition grants to veterans, as well as their immediate family members, to train in the DMACC Transportation Institute’s Class A Commercial Driver’s License program,” said Dave Pfiffner, institute director. “We graduate approximately 200 students per year from the program, and we’re looking forward to training even more students in an industry where safe and skilled drivers are constantly in high demand by employers.” DMACC was one of 16 schools to receive a grant.
