DMACC names Wittstruck first director of diversity, equity and inclusion

193 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and Culture, Education, Key Leadership ChangesNaomi Sea Young Wittstruck has been hired as the director of diversity, equity and inclusion for Des Moines Area Community College. Her more than 12 years of experience in organizational management and development of DEI initiatives has included statewide and regional leadership roles with the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church, leading the organization’s advocacy, outreach, education and training for leaders from rural and urban communities across the state on DEI and justice initiatives. She has also previously served as the UMC’s lobbyist, the community development director and executive director for a human services nonprofit agency in Des Moines and as a program associate for the Wesley Foundation, working to educate and train Iowa State University students on a variety of DEI issues and connect them with community partnership initiatives. “Naomi Sea Young is highly skilled in team building and facilitating discussions and trainings on controversial and difficult topics with diverse groups of people resulting in impactful and meaningful outcomes that build deeper understanding and connection between individuals and groups,” DMACC human resources Executive Director Jenifer Owenson said in a release. Wittstruck started in her role in January 2022 and is serving DMACC districtwide.
