Des Moines Area Community College announced it will roll back its tuition increase by $1 per credit hour for the upcoming 2019 fiscal year that starts on July 1. The board had earlier approved a $6 per credit hour increase for in-state tuition rate and $12 increase out-of-state tuition rate. With the amended tuition, the new rate will be $156 per credit hour for in-state students rather than $157, which DMACC said remains the lowest tuition and fees of any college or university in the state. “Our students can thank their legislators and Gov. Kim Reynolds for the reduced tuition increase this year,” DMACC President Rob Denson said in a statement, noting that the Legislature restored $2 million of the $4 million in cuts made statewide over the last year, which made the tuition reduction possible. Denson said that even modest tuition increases make a big impact on some students.
