The Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry Network and Des Moines Public Schools have expanded their partnership to provide mobile food pantries at additional DMPS school locations. According to a news release, mobile food pantry sites have been added at Walnut Street School, Hiatt Middle School, Park Avenue Elementary School and Lincoln High School (Skeffington’s parking lot). They join DMARC mobile food pantry sites already in place at Howe Elementary and River Woods Elementary. Amanda Miller, the school district’s director of food and nutrition, said in the release that the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic has left many families without “enough to get by,” and she praised the district’s partnership with DMARC to help provide nutritious food to thousands of homes. Matt Unger, DMARC CEO, said, “DMARC is proud to expand our partnership with Des Moines Public Schools to meet people who are facing food insecurity in our community where they are.” The full list and schedule of DMARC mobile food pantry sites at Des Moines school locations can be found here.
