DMU names Halm dean of College of Osteopathic Medicine
Des Moines University has hired Dr. Steven Halm as dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, effective July 8. Halm succeeds Dr. Bret Ripley, who left DMU in April to become director of osteopathic education with MercyOne-Des Moines. Halm was previously assistant dean and chair of simulation medicine at Campbell University’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in North Carolina. He concurrently was associate professor of internal medicine and pediatrics and the faculty adviser for the Campbell University Community Care Clinic, a student-run free clinic. In his new role, Halm is working to gain a good understanding of DMU’s culture, identify areas of challenge and potential improvement in the college, and assist with the university’s transition to its new West Des Moines campus in 2023, according to a post on DMU’s website.
