The Iowa Department of Transportation has installed signs it hopes will persuade motorists to do something they have largely been unwilling to do: use both lanes of the expanded on-ramp from southbound Iowa 141 to Interstate 80/35. Many motorists ignore the outside lane, knowing they must merge into traffic at the interstate. But that backs traffic back onto 141, which is what the expanded ramp was meant to avoid.
