The Farmers’ Market has postponed the opening of its live market this spring because of the coronavirus pandemic and concerns over how it could take place while ensuring social distancing practices could be followed. The live market attracts about 25,000 people and 300 vendors in the Court Avenue District each Saturday morning May through October. Farmers’ Market organizers offered a virtual market meet-up event for three weeks in May, and have not developed an online marketplace where customers can order from vendors virtually. Vendors can coordinate a pick-up time and location, or delivery options with customers. According to a news release announcing the new online marketplace, 112 vendors have joined the platform, with more expected to join in the coming weeks. A link to the online marketplace can be found on the Downtown Farmers’ Market website. “We are excited to get the Online Marketplace up and running in order to help as many vendors as quickly as possible during this time when we are unable to host an in-person Market each Saturday morning,” Kelly Foss, director of the Downtown Farmers’ Market said in the news release. “What you see right now is just the beginning — more vendors will be added and we will continue to build this platform and tweak it as necessary to ensure the best experience for customers and vendors.”
