DSM’s annual output more than $500 million
Commercial airports in or near Iowa contribute a total annual output of more than $1.3 billion to the state’s economy, according to a report released by the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Office of Aviation today, which is part of a larger study on passenger air service in Iowa to be released Thursday at the Iowa Aviation Conference in West Des Moines.
The Des Moines International Airport, one of the 10 commercial airports surveyed, employs 5,476 people each year and has an annual output of $522.4 million. The total for the 10 commercial airports is 14,209 positions and an annual output of $1.34 billion.
The study included all commercial service airports in Iowa, including those in Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Dubuque, Fort Dodge, Mason City, Sioux City and Waterloo. The study also looked at the impact of the bordering airports in Omaha, Neb., and Moline, Ill.
