Dupaco Community Credit Union on Friday outlined its plans for a second full-service “learning lab” branch to be built in Greater Des Moines, at 1090 E. Hickman Road in Waukee. In August the Dubuque-based credit union announced it would build a Grimes learning lab branch to open at 1701 E. First St., with completion set late next year. The planned learning lab branches will focus on teaching members how to improve their financial well-being. Both of the new branches will also feature video tellers, featuring real-time, face-to-face transactions from a distance. Dupaco employees located at a central location in Dubuque remotely will operate the Waukee and Grimes lobbies and drive-thru video teller machines. Dupaco’s first learning lab branch opened in 2014; the Waukee location will be its seventh learning lab branch and 21st branch overall when it opens in late 2022. Dupaco’s chief marketing officer, Dave Klavitter said: “We anticipate more connection points in the Des Moines area, though those may be different than our learning lab branches. Like everyone, we’re learning and adapting to the lessons of the lingering pandemic.” To read a Business Record article detailing how the credit union’s learning lab branches operate, click here.
