EasterSeals Iowa announced that it has received a $50,000 grant from the CareSource Foundation, the charitable-giving arm of Ohio-based CareSource, one of the nation’s largest Medicaid managed health care plans. The award is part of $140,000 in competitive grants that the foundation recently awarded to 10 Iowa nonprofits through a grant challenge it launched earlier this year. The CareSource Foundation provides grants to nonprofits that are working to eliminate poverty, provide services to low and moderate-income families, build healthier communities, and develop innovative approaches to address significant social issues. The EasterSeals Iowa award was the largest grant made to the 10 organizations. “This grant will make it possible for us to support individuals to find and maintain jobs, for families to have access to exceptional child care, provide a child with a memorable summer camp experience and support children and families experiencing a mental health crisis,” said Sherri Nielsen, president and CEO of EasterSeals Iowa. Earlier this year, CareSource announced its intent to bid to become a Medicaid managed care organization in Iowa.
