A proposed project in Davenport that will share the history of Davenport as it relates to people of color has been awarded nearly $220,000 by the Enhance Iowa Board. According to a news release, the Community Attraction and Tourism grant will help fund MLK Park, which is described as an outdoor venue for residents and tourists, where they can engage in the area’s artistic, creative, cultural and ethnic history. The park will display 16 educational panels about the history of Davenport. The total cost of the project is estimated at $1.09 million. The Enhance Iowa program provides financial incentives to communities for the construction of recreational, cultural, educational or entertainment facilities that enhance the quality of life in Iowa.
