Seats up for re-election include councilors representing the city’s first and third wards, along with the at-large councilor. Each incumbent has announced their intentions to seek re-election, and each currently faces one or two challengers. Candidates can begin filing nomination papers to the Des Moines city clerk on Aug. 23 with a deadline of 5 p.m. on Sept. 16.
