Des Moines Register: When the Iowa State Fair returns in August, it will include a new, dedicated space where fairgoers can enjoy tractor pulls, monster trucks meets, rodeos, barbecue competitions and other family-friendly events. The fair today announced that the Elwell Family Park will open midway through the fair on Aug. 17 and 18 for a tractor pull. Situated in the northwest corner of the fairgrounds, the venue will have seating for up to 2,100, grassy rises for better viewing, a concessions trailer and temporary restrooms. That’s just phase one. Eventually, the park will have seating for 6,000, permanent restrooms and expanded concessions, the fair said in a news release.
