EMC Foundation awards $30,000 grant to Oakridge Neighborhood
Oakridge Neighborhood has received a $30,000 grant from the EMC Insurance Foundation to support youth programming and adult workforce development. According to a news release, Oakridge Neighborhood works to provide opportunities for children, adults and families to help them become financially independent, and provides a safe neighborhood and essential programs and services. It is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Des Moines, with more than 66% immigrants and refugees from 23 countries who speak more than 29 languages. Fifty-three percent of the more than 1,100 residents in the neighborhood are children, and 93% of its residents are low-income, the release states. The EMC Insurance Foundation supports several organizations in Central Iowa and around the country.
