EMC receives more than 400 derecho damage claims in first week following storm
Des Moines-based EMC Insurance Cos. has received more than 400 claims in the past week related to the devastating derecho storm that ripped through Iowa on Aug. 10. EMC adjusters began inspections immediately following the storm that same day, said Mick Lovell, executive vice president and chief operating officer of EMC. “These claims are primarily commercial property claims in Iowa and many are sizable,” he said in an emailed statement. “There are also a smaller number of claims reported in Illinois and Wisconsin. We expect the claims count to continue to increase in the coming days.” Lovell said the company continues to have “all hands on deck” as it performs triage on claims coming in and works to approve emergency repairs and mitigate further damage. “We expect EMC and independent adjusters to remain in the field into the foreseeable future,” he said. “EMC is committed to handling claims as quickly and efficiently as possible, and our team members are ready to help respond and recover.”
