Des Moines Register: EMC Insurance Cos. has decided to cancel plans for a stairway connecting the skywalk to its new downtown park. The stairs were part of the company’s construction of a permanent bridge to replace the temporary skywalk across Seventh Street that links the Greater Des Moines Partnership building with the Hub Tower. The staircase would have been located about midblock on the west side of Seventh Street. EMC cited several reasons for forgoing the stairs, including rising costs and lack of space.
