Emily Weikert Memorial Scholarship announced

The slain woman was a West Des Moines Valley and Iowa State University graduate, and the daughter of West Bank vice president Rod Weikert.

The West Bancorporation Foundation Inc. and the family of Emily Weikert have announced a $100,000 philanthropic gift that will establish an endowed scholarship in memory of Emily Weikert.

 A 2005 graduate of Valley High School and a 2009 honors graduate of Iowa State University’s College of Business, Weikert was killed in a violent crime in Denver on Dec. 27.

Emily’s father, Rod Weikert, is a senior vice president at West Bank.

The Emily Weikert Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating Valley High School student planning to attend Iowa State University. The scholarship fund has swelled with additional contributions from family, friends, and West Bank employees and directors and currently stands at $144,500.
