Enhance Iowa Board awards nearly $2 million in CAT, sports tourism grants

209 wordsAll Latest News, Economic DevelopmentThe Enhance Iowa Board awarded $1.4 million in community attraction and tourism grants to an event center in North Liberty and an indoor aquatic facility in Ames, as well as $503,572 in sports tourism grants to promote the National Junior High Finals Rodeo event in Des Moines and the Hy-Vee IndyCar Race Weekend in Newton. The new Centennial Center in North Liberty will receive $900,000 to go toward the total $8,357,963 project cost for the construction of the 13,000-square-foot venue, which will include an outdoor stage designed to accommodate crowds from 500 to 5,000 and an indoor facility that will be able to hold up to 500 people. The Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center in Ames will get $500,000 to put toward the $31,374,394 project cost for the construction of a 39,000-square-foot recreational and wellness facility, which will include a six-lane lap pool, zero-depth recreational pool with a current channel, children’s play structure, wellness pool, two water slides, locker rooms, a party/meeting room, multipurpose rooms and walking area. Newton Community Events Inc. received $500,000 to market the Hy-Vee IndyCar Race Weekend on July 12-14, 2024. Catch Des Moines got $3,572 for social media marketing and digital billboards for the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in June 2024.
