Iowa now has dozens of businesses directly involved in the wind and solar power industries, the Environmental Law & Policy Center said Thursday.

The group counted 75 Iowa companies engaged in the wind energy industry supply chain, and 47 in the solar industry chain. The jobs involve manufacturing, finance, engineering, sales and other areas.

The American Wind Energy Association reports that 4,000 jobs in Iowa are part of clean energy efforts. And solar energy installation, manufacturing and supply provide another 680 Iowa jobs, the Solar Foundation reports.

The report was timed to catch the eye of people involved in the Iowa Ag Summit on Saturday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The event will feature a slate of potential presidential candidates, and the environmental group wants them to hear about Iowa’s bipartisan support of alternative energy.

Iowa is one of the nation’s top producers of wind energy, and the industry continues to grow.

The League of Conservation Voters called on the national political figures to support renewable energy policies during a press conference with the Environmental Law & Policy Center Thursday. The ELPC noted Iowa still has room for growth in the industry.
