A Christmas concert by world-famous bass-baritone Simon Estes raised $30,000 to support the Des Moines Area Community College’s new Music Scholarship Fund dedicated in the singer’s name. The concert featured Christmas songs sung by Estes, the DMACC Chamber Ensemble and choirs from Ankeny High School and Ankeny Centennial High School. The performance was held Dec. 19 at the Des Moines Civic Center. Estes is a visiting professor of music at DMACC; the concert was part of his efforts to help young people pursue careers in music at DMACC.
