Event tonight to discuss ideas to reduce violence, improve police relations
Des Moines community members, including area business leaders, are invited to discuss and vote on community-developed ideas on ways to reduce violence and strengthen relationships with law enforcement, according to a news release. The gallery-style event for Bridging the Gap will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Central Library. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss each idea and vote on solutions they believe the city should prioritize, said the release. The ideas with the most votes will be presented to the Des Moines City Council. Part one of the Bridging the Gap project took place in May 2018 and involved solutions-focused dialogues with over 200 members of the Des Moines community, facilitated by the Des Moines Police Department and the Civil and Human Rights Commission. Ideas developed by those discussions will be revealed and discussed tonight through illustrations and artwork done by Nathan T. Wright.
