Oct. 4: The Power of Her Summit
Host: Downtown Des Moines Chamber of Commerce
About: “The Power of Her” summit is an inaugural event that will bring to a close the 2018 series of the Leadership Education and Advancement Pipeline (LEAP) women’s leadership development program. “The Power of Her” consists of two breakout sessions followed by keynote speaker Patti Wachtendorf, the warden at the Iowa State Penitentiary. Wachtendorf’s address is titled “The Leader In You.” The summit is free to all LEAP series members. The cost for those wishing to attend only the summit is $50 for chamber members and $75 for nonmembers.
When: 1-5:15 p.m.

Oct. 11: Equity for Women Award Reception honoring Diane Ramsey
Host: 50-50 in 2020
About: Diane Ramsey, founder and former CEO of Iowa Women Lead Change, will receive the Equity for Women Award at this special event on Oct. 11. The award is given annually to recognize a woman who has made significant and enduring contributions to her field, elevated the status of women, had a positive impact on women and girls, helped open new frontiers for women and society in general, and inspired others by her example. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. Tickets can be purchased online.

Oct. 12: FemMom Connection
Host: FemCity Des Moines
About: Join members of FemCity Des Moines for an unofficial Coffee Connection. Starting with this event, the group will meet at the Des Moines Children’s Museum for an opportunity to connect and chat with other Des Moines Fems while the kids play in the museum (moms are welcome to come without their kids, too). A free-will donation to the museum is accepted.

Together, the two groups will host this networking night out to help members learn more about the other group.

Oct. 23: Eliminating Workplace Harassment and Abusive Behavior
Host: Women’s Leadership Network – Dubuque
About: Today more than ever, employers need to make clear that sexual harassment and workplace abuse have no place in a work environment. Women’s Leadership Network will host this workshop led by consultant and trainer Jim Jelinske. The workshop will include lunch. The cost to attend is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.
