The last behemoth of the video store age has fallen. Family Video, an Illinois-based company that operated 800 video rental stores at its peak, announced on Twitter this week that it would be closing all remaining locations.

Family Video, an Illinois-based company that operated 800 video rental stores at its peak, announced on Twitter this week that it would be closing all remaining locations. Family Video closed six of its Iowa stores in September. The West Des Moines store — Family Video’s final location in the Des Moines metro — and the six other remaining stores in Iowa stopped offering movie rentals Tuesday. Liquidation sales have begun.
