Turkey is the classic choice for a Thanksgiving feast — and survey results find it’s the most affordable choice in 2018, the American Farm Bureau reports. This year, the organization found that a whole Thanksgiving feast for 10 people — including turkey, bread stuffing, cranberries and pumpkin pie — will be $48.90, less than $5 a person. Ninety-six percent of Iowans reported eating pork weekly to the Iowa Farm Bureau Food and Farm Index, but those who opt for ham, green beans and russet potatoes will pay out approximately $6 a person for their holiday meal. Farm Bureau compared meal delivery services to store-bought groceries for the first time this year, and found convenience costs: Delivery services bumped the prices up to $8 a person. “If grocery shoppers are looking for the best value for their Thanksgiving meal, a store-bought turkey is still the way to go,” said Dave Miller, the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation’s director of research and commodity services.
