Farm innovation qualifies for tax credits
Successful Farming reports that one way farmers can boost their bottom line amid low grain prices is by taking advantage of the research and development tax credit. Landowners who plant cover crops, or try different fertilizing techniques, for example, might qualify. The credit rewards businesses for trying innovation that is new to their operation. Former U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said farmers have largely ignored the credit.
