U.S. farmers apparently will get less federal aid than expected to offset their loss of sales due to tariffs, a senior U.S. agriculture official said last week. Successful Farming reported that former Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey reported that “a little over $5 billion of the maybe $8 billion that we expect we’ll make in mitigation payments” was doled out in early January, but he didn’t mention why the figure had dropped from the earlier reported $9.6 billion.
