FBI joins DMACC cybersecurity investigation as classes, locations continue closure

DMACC locations and classes continue to be closed today, June 8, as the community college continues ongoing investigation of a cybersecurity incident first detected last week. Online classes have been canceled since Thursday, and the college closed all 12 locations on Friday.

The FBI joined DMACC’s IT Department and outside cybersecurity analysts in the investigation, DMACC President Rob Denson said in a statement posted to DMACC’s homepage.

“Unfortunately network security issues have reached epidemic levels across the country. While we’ve taken aggressive steps over the years to mitigate our risk, DMACC was recently impacted by a data security incident,” Denson said.

“To date, we have no evidence that any student or faculty information has been acquired or is at risk as a result of this incident.”

DMACC faculty, staff and students should avoid using systems such as Blackboard and Office 365 as the investigation continues. Additional updates will be provided via DMACC’s RAVE alert system today; students, staff and faculty may direct questions to dpo@dmacc.edu.
