The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines has partnered with Des Moines’ North High School to offer internship opportunities to students interested in careers in the financial services industry. Four North High interns, including three seniors and one junior, were accepted from 15 applicants to intern over the summer at the bank’s member and financial operations and information technology departments. A goal of the program, which will continue in 2018, is also to increase diversity in the financial services industry. Of the 1,300 students at North High School, more than 55 percent are Hispanic or African-American. Angelica Reyes, one of the 2017 interns, said the experience was valuable and has prepared her to pursue a college major in international relations with a minor in business.
