The YMCA’s final Farmers to Families food box distribution will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the John R. Grubb YMCA at 1611 11th Street in Des Moines. The distribution site is a drive-up event, and volunteers will load food boxes into individual vehicles. The Y has served as a distribution site for the USDA’s Farmers to Families program, which the USDA announced will end in its current form in June. The program provides 20-pound boxes of fresh food items, including meat, produce, dairy and a gallon of milk to anyone in need in the community. The distribution is locally coordinated by Loffredo Fresh Foods.
