Flooding closes some Des Moines streets
Flooding has prompted the closing of several Des Moines streets this afternoon, according to the city’s Public Works Department.
The closings are:
● George Flagg Parkway from Southwest 30th Street to Park Avenue
● Southwest 30th Street from Bell Avenue to George Flagg Parkway
● Walnut Hill Drive at 62nd Street
● Williams Street from East Jefferson Avenue to East University Avenue (local traffic only)
● Four-Mile Drive from East 38th Street to Williams Street
● East Jefferson Avenue from East 38th Street to Williams Street
Officials said the roadways will remain closed until flood damage is assessed, repairs are made and the streets are cleaned.
Anyone needing to protect property against rising water can pick up sandbags at the southeast corner of East 38th Street and East Jefferson Avenue.
