A global pandemic won’t stop the annual Comfort Food Cook-Off fundraiser, Family Promise of Greater Des Moines announced this week. The annual cook-off will take place as a drive-up distribution event on Nov. 8, with meals packaged by six competing faith-based congregations. Participants will pick up their food and vote online through donations for their favorite dish; FPGDM will award “People’s Choice” for the most online donations received in support of a dish, and the “Pot Trophy” awarded by judges. Proceeds benefit families serviced by FPGD, a nonprofit focused on keeping families with children who are experiencing homelessness together while they work toward stable housing and income. Pre-registration is required online; awards will be announced on Facebook Live at 6 p.m.
