Iowa Workforce Development, IowaWORKS and Hawkeye Community College are using a $75,000 Walmart Foundation grant to introduce low-income Iowa women to jobs in construction. Women who are interested in operating heavy equipment can get the experience from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 12-15 at the IowaWORKS Central Iowa Region 11 parking lot at 430 E. Grand Ave. in Des Moines. The Walmart Foundation grant covers the costs of bringing a specialized Hawkeye Community College construction equipment simulator/trailer along with a general instructor and assistant to each of Iowa’s 15 IowaWORKS offices in 2016.
