Forbes Magazine has ranked Des Moines as the fourth best city for business and careers, the magazine announced today.

Provo, Utah received the top honor from forbes, followed by Raleigh, N.C. , Fort Collins, Colo. and Des Moines. Forbes ranks the 200 biggest metro areas based on 12 different categories.

In a time when economists are questioning whether economic recovery is starting to slow, Des Moines kept unemployment below the national level at 6.9 percent and Forbes predicts Des Moines will see a 2.1 percent growth rate this year.

Overall, cities in the Midwest ranked highest in Forbes list because many metro areas on the coasts suffer from excess regulation and high costs, according to Forbes.

Cedar Rapids ranked 33 on the list. Modesto, Calif. and Merced, Calif. ranked at the bottom of the list.
