Former Aflac leader named Tippie’s first executive in residence

Fred Crawford, the recently retired president and chief operating officer of supplemental health insurance provider Aflac, will be the first executive in residence at the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business. According to a news release, the college created the executive in residence program to bring an experienced risk management and insurance professional to campus to share knowledge with faculty and students. As part of his role, Crawford will help develop new components to the college’s risk management and insurance curriculum and a new professional development program for specialists working in the industry, the release said. Crawford joined Aflac in 2015 as CFO and became president and COO in 2022. Before Aflac, he held various leadership positions at CNO Financial Group and Lincoln Financial Group, and he had a career in banking. Originally from Palatine, Ill., he graduated from Indiana State University and received his MBA from the University of Iowa. He will serve as executive in residence through the spring 2026 semester.
