Former director of Des Moines Art Center dies at 90
Des Moines Register: James Demetrion, credited with building the Des Moines Art Center into a nationally recognized institution during his 1969-1984 tenure and exerting lasting influence on the city’s art scene, has died at age 90. Demetrion, who went on to lead the Smithsonian Institute’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden on the National Mall in Washington, died Sunday of complications of a stroke.
