Former IPTV General Manager Miller dies

Former Iowa Public Television General Manager Dan Miller died Sunday after a long battle with a rare disease. His career spanned 37 years, and he ultimately supervised a nine-station network from his office in Johnston. Viewership rose during his tenure, and broadcast offerings tripled. The operation also converted to digital. Miller was a familiar face in journalism circles, and was known for his upbeat demeanor, interest in collaborations, and support of strong journalism. He was married to Diane Graham, a former longtime Des Moines Register reporter and editor. Miller retired in April 2013. “Dan’s intellect, dedication and diligence was appreciated by all who had the pleasure to work alongside him,” said Molly Phillips, executive director and general manager at IPTV and Miller’s successor. “His leadership left a legacy of editorial integrity, credibility and of public trust, which IPTV strives to maintain today. Dan was also a beloved friend and valued mentor. His friendship, support and counsel will be sorely missed.”
